Report
from the Kent Festival - Sunday 23rd March @ Bromley
Ash Mini Rugby Club took part in the
Kent Festival of Rugby at Under 7's and Under 9's levels.
The Under 7's playing TAG rugby played in a friendly festival each team playing
4 games within their pool. At the end ALL players are awarded a certificate and
a medal. They really love and treasure these. The team played well, considering
Ash's average age is 6. They won one game and lost three, but these were very
close with only 1 try separating the tams at the final whistle.
The under 9's won all their pool matches without conceding a try, scoring 14
themselves. In the process beating Bromley 1 - 0 , Medway 3 - 0, New Ash
Green 7 - 0 and Westcombe Park 3 - 0. As pool A winners Ash went into the
Semi-finals and played Tunbridge Wells, the eventual winners. In a very close
fought game, with the Ash players tiring rapidly, Tunbridge Wells managed to sneak
in a try to win by 0 - 1. However this is the FIRST time an Ash side has reached
the semi-finals and for the SMALLEST club in Kent to come equal third is
something to be really proud of.
I would like to thank all the coaches, parents and children for their effort and
determination to succeed against the odds. It shows that quality and not
quantity is the key. A special thank you must go to those players from
Canterbury who graciously agreed to play for Ash as one of the draw backs is
that we have such small squads.
We are looking forward to seeing the Under 12's bring back the trophy from their
tournament on 6th April in Maidstone. Then we are all off to Hasting for their
festival to see if the Under 9's can make it 3 wins in a row!
