U13s v Deal & Betteshanger, Dover & Folkestone

A good day for rugby cool and calm, saw us travel to Deal for a 4 way fixture with Deal, Dover and Folkestone. We managed to field a team but having 4 missing made it hard work. All the boys new they had to dig in and put a shift in to get through the day.

Our first game was against a very strong Deal side, that played with great hands and exploited the spaces on our wings to score several tries. We pushed hard to score ourselves, but was unable to break down the defence coming away with no score, a final score of 7-0 to Deal.

Game 2 was against Dover, we came out trying to play some attractive running rugby, but some of the final passes going astray. Dover were first to score followed by a quick second both down our flanks again. Then some strong tackles and defending saw us getting back into the game, a penalty was awarded to Dover for a high tackle from which the ball was spread across to the other side of the pitch to score again. Time to show a bit of character boys, of which they did. They came out fighting and took the game to Dover producing a try in the corner giving a bit of belief. Dover scored quickly from the restart but we never gave in and pushed hard to get back on terms scoring a second. Dover scored once more coming round the corners again but we showed that ash spirit and never gave in and scored in the final play of the game. Ash 3-5 Dover.

Game 3 against Folkestone, was a very even game as it was earlier in the season. We started well with some good work at the ruck and tackles. We managed to score first then having to soak up some pressure as Folkestone made a line break from their own 22 with a strong carry managed to make a try to even the score. We went again applying pressure of our own and rewarded with some good passing to score again. With fatigue setting in Folkestone managed to score an equalizer final score 2-2.

Well done boys, we all know what areas we need to work on to improve in training but still another good battling display.
