20th April 2026
Over the long Easter weekend, the DASH U14 squad headed to Holland for the Hilversum International Rugby Festival, taking on teams from across Europe in a tour packed with rugby, fun and plenty of memories.
Before the rugby got underway, the squad enjoyed some well-earned downtime at Efteling Theme Park. No tour would be complete without a fancy dress theme, and this year it was Where’s Wally — with around 60 Wallys taking on rollercoasters, log flumes and plenty of puzzled looks from around the park.
Then it was down to business.
With 15 teams from Holland, England, Switzerland and Latvia competing, DASH faced three tough group matches. They opened in style with a brilliant 33–0 win over t’Gooi, with tries from Ollie Dixon, Reuben Elgar (2), Seb Ottey and Beau Moyiham.
Next came a physical contest against the Swiss Barbarians, played out in front of a lively crowd and plenty of Swiss cowbells. DASH battled hard to earn a 5–5 draw, with Elgar again on the scoresheet.
The final pool game against Groningen was another tough and physical encounter. DASH pushed hard but were edged out 5–0, finishing the group with one win, one draw and one loss, and qualifying for the 5th–8th place play-offs.
In the semi-final against Queen Elizabeth’s School, DASH showed real character. Trailing at half-time, they fought back through Elgar, before Max Rooke scored the winner — his first try of the season — to seal a brilliant 12–5 win.
That set up a 5th/6th place final against RC Diok. DASH dug deep, with Max Rooke scoring late in the corner to level the game at 5–5. The match went to a dramatic drop-kick shootout, eventually won by Diok in sudden death.
So DASH finished an outstanding 6th out of 15 teams — a brilliant achievement and a huge credit to every player, coach and supporter involved.
Special thanks to the tour sponsors Datum Groundworks, Salon Beau & Faversham Joinery - your generosity means a lot to us all at DASH.
Battered, bruised and carrying memories that will last a lifetime, this was a tour to remember.
Next stop: 7s season… and maybe Portugal next year?
